Travis McIntosh
Balmoral State High School
The sky’s the limit for the Balmoral State High School (BSHS) teacher who has introduced students to the world of Aerospace education.
After teaching for 18 months as the school’s only Aerospace teacher, Travis McIntosh has managed to revive the subject and create amazing opportunities for budding pilots. His passion for teaching and outstanding demonstrations of initiative and commitment have led to Travis’ nomination for the 2017 QCT Excellence in Beginning to Teach Award. Travis has drawn on experience from his previous career as an Aeronautical Engineer with the Royal Australian Navy to connect students with industry professionals, arrange an Australian Defence Force careers presentation and modify assessment items to better allow students to demonstrate their skills and knowledge. BSHS is currently one of 18 schools that are a Gateway to Industry School for Aerospace. Head of Department Anne McInerney says Travis is passionate about the wider vision of Aerospace, with hopes of it to be more of a whole-school priority rather than a specialty area. “The respect students have for Travis and the focused, productive classroom environment he establishes are evidence that he meets their social, emotional and intellectual needs.” In addition to conquering Aerospace at BSHS, Travis coaches two touch football teams in the Touch Football Excellence Program and dedicates his time outside school hours to attending football games and carnivals.
Congratulations Travis on your nomination. |
