Thomas O’Brien’s fun-loving nature and obvious enthusiasm endears him to his students, who in turn, thrive under his guidance at Calamvale Special School.
Thomas is an experienced Special Education teacher who has taught students with complex and challenging needs whose current focus is preparing students to transition to post-school options at the end of the year. “Tom is passionate in meeting the needs of all students in his care and engages parents, specialists and other colleagues to work together to achieve positive student outcomes for all,” says Deputy Principal Anthony Kruck. Thomas currently teaches ten senior students with an intellectual impairment, as well as students with a physical and cognitive disabilities, who each access the Australian Curriculum at varying levels. |

Thomas’ fun and proactive teaching style is engaging for senior students, who enjoy his enthusiasm, humour and caring nature. Thomas strongly believes in parents having an active role and contributing towards their children’s learning, and he consistently takes the time to explain to parents the best steps to help their children achieve their post-school goals. He encourages students to be independent and make their own choices about the future, helping parents to see the productivity from the students learning. “Tom has had a major impact on all students and parents he has worked with, and this experience has had a positive impact, creating many memories that the senior students will take away with them when they graduate.” Congratulations Thomas on your nomination. |
