Stuart King
Bray Park State High School
Not many teachers can say they have had a career as long and as successful as Stuart King’s.
The Bray Park State High School Maths and Science teacher has had a teaching career spanning a huge 49 years. He has maintained a remarkably high standard throughout its entirety. “Stuart is exceptional in engaging all students through his ability to build positive relationships and set high standards. He is well-liked and respected by all students, and goes the extra mile to get to know their personalities and backgrounds in order to connect and understand the whole student,” colleague Antony Parry said. Stuart’s commitment to his classes has seen him cater for those with learning support needs, take on the role of OP mentor for senior students, and provide additional one-on-one mentoring support for at-risk students when required; his students’ grades are consistently above school and regional targets as a result. |
His wealth of teaching experience has seen Stuart become an invaluable resource for other teachers at Bray Park, and he is constantly sought out by other staff members to assist them with their implementation of the curriculum.
Outside of the classroom, Stuart has become a champion of the school’s sporting program. A long-time volleyball coach, Stuart spends many of his lunchtimes and afterschool hours training various teams for competitive inter-school tournaments. Stuart is also coordinating an impressive fundraising effort to send the senior boys’ volleyball team to the Australian All Schools Volleyball Championships in Melbourne later this year. He has gone above and beyond to give his volleyball teams every chance at success, often organising extra games with his coaching contemporaries from other schools to ensure his team is always well prepared. “Stuart is a true example of an outstanding teacher in all facets – he is the teacher who, when adults are asked to reflect on the best teacher they ever had, Stuart’s face would be the one they remember,” Principal Kristen Ferdinands said. For his immense contributions to their academic and sporting life, Stuart’s students have chosen him as the Bray Park State High School ‘Teacher of the Year,’ and he has also won the school’s ‘Coach of the Year’ award for the last two consecutive years.
Congratulations Stuart on your nomination. By Claudia Farhart. |
