Sasha McDonald
Stretton State College
Just 12 days into her career, Sasha McDonald presented her colleagues with her strategies for adapting the curriculum framework to suit the needs of her students.
Almost four years on, the Stretton State College teacher continues to impress her colleagues and inspire students.
Stretton State College Campus Principal Geoff Latta says she is “the best beginning teacher I have ever seen in my career”.
This year Sasha has been nominated for a Queensland College of Teachers Excellence in Beginning to Teach Award.
The English, Humanities and Ancient History teacher is passionate about reading and is known for her professional library and instilling the love of reading in her students.
Her work in challenging students at the top of the achievement scale led to her role as Extension Lead Teacher.
As well as acting as Head of Department for Humanities, Sasha contributes to extra-curricular activities at the school such as establishing the debating team, producing two musicals and participating in the before-school reading programs for junior students.
This year, Sasha has been invited to deliver workshops at the Queensland History Teachers’ Association Annual Conference and the History Teachers’ Association of Australia Conference in Sydney.
Sasha constantly seeks professional development through her own extensive professional library, and her role on the Beginning and Establishing Teachers’ Association team.
Congratulations Sasha on your nomination.
