Samantha Tayler knew she wanted to be a teacher at just eight years old.
As a child she dreamed of being able to show people new aspects of the world the way her primary school teachers did. Now, less than three years into her teaching career, Samantha has been nominated to receive the 2017 QCT Excellence in Beginning to Teach Award. The Year 5 teacher is an extremely valuable member of the Tara Shire State College community. |

At the beginning of each school year, Samantha personally phones the parents of every student in her class to establish a positive connection, and get them on board with their children’s learning.
As the year progresses, she makes the conscious effort to phone at least three parents with positive feedback about their child. As Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL) Coach, Samantha works with teachers across the college from Prep to Year 12, to strategise the best way to maintain student engagement and promote positive behaviour systems. Her focus is to unlock alternate ways to manage behaviour and explore options to reengage students and then motivate and reward them. In the classroom Samantha always ensures learning is fun and engaging for her students.
She creatively adapts lessons to suit the interests of her students at the time, like the football-obsessed Year 5&6s she taught in 2016. TSSC Deputy Principal Nikki Gauld says Samantha demonstrates exemplary practice and sets high expectations among colleagues and students. Congratulations Samantha on your nomination. |
