Rebekah Brown’s infectious enthusiasm for learning has made her Year 3 class at Palmwoods State School an engaging and supportive place for each and every student.
 
When class parent Tanya Wheeler started volunteering to help Rebekah in her weekly science classes, she was immediately impressed by her energy and passion for teaching. Equally impressive was how engaged her students were as a result.
 
Rebekah’s excellent teaching ability and genuinely caring personality led Tanya to nominate her for the 2017 QCT Excellence in Teaching Award.
 
“Mrs Brown really knows her class. She always seems to know what is going on inside the classroom, outside on the oval, and in their worlds outside school,” Tanya said. 

“My son has blossomed under Mrs Brown’s tuition. He loves going to school and learning and adores his teacher,” she said.

Rebekah introduced a new activity called ‘Kindness Cards’ into her classroom earlier this year. Each morning, her students pick a card requiring them to perform a daily act of kindness, such as paying a compliment, to another student in the class.
 
She also created her very own game known as ‘Mystery Hero,’ wherein students must use their powers of investigation and deduction to discover who is the mystery hero.
 
Each and every child in Rebekah’s class has their own, personalised learning goals which they have developed with Rebekah’s help. Together, Rebekah and the students review these goals regularly to ensure that everyone is on track to reach their full potential. 

Outside of her own classroom, Rebekah is a highly valued member of the school’s teaching team. She shares her resources and practices with her colleagues willingly and coordinates professional practice training for student teachers.
