Rachel Johns
The Lakes College
Rachel Johns has a passion for educating and nurturing the whole child and is particularly skilled in working with students with unique social and emotional needs.
The Lakes College teacher caters for children with a wide range of learning difficulties, including autism spectrum disorder, and she also runs an eight-week program at the school where she counsels children suffering from grief. Rachel is known for her unique awareness of the intellectual, cultural, and health factors that impact a student’s learning, which allows her to ensure that all students are being extended and supported where necessary. |
This kind and caring nature is what led Rachel’s colleagues to nominate her for the 2017 QCT Excellence in Teaching Award.
Realising that all students engage with the curriculum differently, Rachel provides her students with a wide range of learning opportunities including interactive activities, movement-based learning, and dramatic role playing. Rachel has also taken on the role of Year Level Coordinator for Year Three. She has thrived in this position, skilfully resolving behavioural issues and ensuring parents are playing an active role in their children’s education by welcoming them into the classroom every week. Beyond the classroom, Rachel has organised a wide range of extracurricular activities for her students; she has planned camps and excursions and even directed the 2015 school musical. Congratulations Rachel on your nomination. By Claudia Farhart. |
