Monique Boaler
Springwood State High School
An inspiring Logan teacher has helped increase student attendance and is leading professional development after just 18 months of teaching.
Springwood State High School’s Monique Boaler has been nominated for a Queensland College of Teachers Excellence in Beginning to Teach Award thanks to her leadership in the use of technology for learning, and her outstanding classroom practice.
The Science, Mathematics and Biology teacher has designed creative, hands-on student activities and positive behaviour strategies which have helped lift student attendance in Year 9 to above 90 per cent.
Monique also has her students tweeting about their school work.
Springwood State High School Principal Julie-Ann McCullough says some of the resources Monique has developed “are now being used across the school by some of our most experienced teachers”.
“Monique has taken the lead supporting the introduction of our new Robotics and Coding program, which was a key platform in our successful application to become an Independent School,” Julie-Ann says.
Monique has also developed “a wealth of resources” to help students with reading and lesson templates that track student progress and embed literacy, numeracy and behaviour expectations.
Outside of the classroom she also coaches the touch football and volleyball teams and helps with the Duke of Edinburgh and Bridge Awards, the Chaplains Sleep out Fundraiser and supports students at Eisteddfod events.
Congratulations on your nomination Monique.
