Michelle McCarthy draws on the teachings of Edward De Bono, Art Costa and John Edwards to better understand how her students think.
The Berserker Street State School teacher applies these creative thinking concepts and the role of metacognition to improve her Year 1 class every day. Working in small groups, Michelle’s students tackle lessons centred on real-life contexts that provide them with connections to the outside world. Deputy Principal Elizabeth Rose says Michelle has a high level of professionalism and is well-regarded among her colleagues, students, parents and the greater community. |
“She is a leader amongst her peers and often takes on a leadership role when it comes to curriculum planning, supporting new or beginning teachers and mentoring preservice teachers,” Elizabeth says.
“Michelle has a strong rapport with her students and radiates a special quality that makes her a treasured teacher.” Congratulations Michelle on your nomination. |
