Michelle Burrell
Pimpama State School
DOZENS of parents have written heart-warming messages praising an inspirational Gold Coast teacher for the difference she has made in their children’s lives as part of a state wide teaching award nomination.
It’s the second time Michelle Burrell has been nominated for the Queensland College of Teachers Excellence in Beginning to Teach Award by parents for the outstanding work she does with their children, both inside and outside the classroom.
“Her passion for the students and school is uplifting …. Her patience is outstanding and her bright personality makes schooling a joy for my six-year-old …. My daughter is very shy but since being in Mrs Burrell’s class she has come out of her shell … Both of my girls adore her and just love going to school to learn … My daughter loves going to school and her confidence has increased tremendously … I wish my kids could have her every year …she really is one of the most genuine, lovely people you will meet … She is an amazing teacher … one special teacher …a teacher to remember I reckon,” parents say in some of the separate letters submitted to the Office Max “A Day Made Better” competition.
Sandra Pal has nominated Michelle for the second time after having a second child diagnosed with autism and watching the Year 1 teacher weave her “teacher magic”.
“She found ways of connecting with my daughter and easing her stress triggers while at school and helped her cope,” Sandra says.
Michelle, who is also studying for her Master of Education degree, uses a program called “Intervention for Improvement” in the classroom, which allows her to differentiate her teaching to better accommodate all her students’ needs.
Her tireless dedication and commitment to ensuring students feel safe and happy as they learn continues to inspire all those around her.
Congratulations Michelle on your nomination.
