Mari-Claire Ferguson
Kelvin Grove State College
Mari-Claire Ferguson is promoting a school-wide culture of continuous improvement that is reaching both students and staff.
One of her greatest achievements to date has been her leadership in introducing the government funded initiative Investing 4 Success to Kelvin Grove State College. Investing 4 Success is a school-wide program that supports students to achieve improved outcomes at all levels of improved outcomes in literacy and numeracy. Under Mari-Claire’s leadership, Kelvin Grove State College has developed programs such as the additional five and a half hours of work outside-of-school tuition Homework Clubs and Maths Drop Ins that saw in excess of 3500 attendances in the last twelve months. |
One of Mari-Claire’s strengths is identifying students who require additional support. She provides these students with academic tutors who provide feedback and scaffold work to assist them to reach their potential.
Colleague Juliet Bryant says Mari-Claire leads by example with her constant enthusiasm and positive energy and treats every person in the school community with respect and kindness. Mari-Claire acts as a mentor to the school’s senior students, meeting with them individually to guide them through their studies as they look to transition into tertiary education. Fellow staff members also benefit from Mari-Claire’s leadership. She mentors preservice teachers who come through the school and is a member of the Teacher Education Centre of Excellence, where she helps preservice teachers develop their skills to the highest standard. Congratulations Mari-Claire on your nomination. |
