Lynette Thomas
St Peter's Catholic Primary School
Life has taken Lynette Thomas to many different parts of the world, giving her valuable insight into different cultures and religious beliefs.
Now, the St Peter’s Catholic Primary School teacher is using this experience to create a warm and welcoming classroom environment for students from all backgrounds. “Lynette is able to bring the children’s experiences into the curriculum and meld the two together to provide an excellent learning environment for all participants,” Assistant Principal Joanna Cornwell said. |
“Lynette has a gift of being able to engage her students in all areas of learning, and all students feel welcomed and safe in this environment,” she said. Lynette’s classroom is one where learning is valued and challenges are welcomed. Each student works with Lynette to set out personalised learning goals in a system that allows both teacher and pupil to know what is expected of them and how to go about achieving it.
An expert at catering for students at all stages of their learning journey, Lynette has developed individual programs for students suffering from disabilities as well as students who need extending, ensuring everyone is able to access the curriculum at their own level. “My students are important to me – not only their academic progress but also their wellbeing. I see every one of them as individuals who need to feel safe, valued, and respected,” Lynette said. While she is confident in her abilities as a teacher, Lynette is adept at critically reflecting on her own practices and is always determined to improve the ways in which she engages, supports, and challenges her students. Known for her approachable and honest nature, Lynette is a much loved colleague to her fellow teachers, who feel confident and comfortable in approaching her for guidance. Congratulations Lynette on your nomination. By Claudia Farhart. |
