Lynda Darby
The Southport School
Lynda Darby is a teacher who is willing to take the extra step to make sure her students are learning to the highest ability.
One of those steps is to undertake training in the Arrowsmith Program, an intervention program that uses the principles of neuroplasticity. She was part of a three-week intensive training program in Sydney. Lynda has also taken a keen interest in the link between neuroscience and learning, networking with leading academic Jared Cooney Horvarth, a PhD graduate expert in the field of Educational Neurosciences. Through her training, Lynda is able to tailor an individualised learning program for each of her students, and effectively works with parents to maximise students’ learning potential. |
A testament to the work she has put in is a visit from the creator of the Arrowsmith Program, Barbara Arrowsmith, to The Southport School earlier this year.
The program and additional learning experiences that Lynda co-ordinates and provides, aligns with her learning philosophy. This includes clear goals that each student can achieve, many opportunities to provide her students with feedback on the progress of their learning, and one-on-one support and guidance when students are performing complex cognitive tasks. This results in the creation of a supported environment for her diverse range of students. Lynda communicates effectively with the wider school community, providing numerous opportunities for parents to witness the progress of their children in her class. She regularly opens her doors to the community, to enable those who are interested to observe a cognitive classroom environment. In addition, she attends professional development opportunities and is part of a network with her peers. Congratulations Lynda on your nomination. Written by Mark Zita. |
