With two decades’ worth of leadership in education, Lindsay McQuattie has a passion for learning that knows no bounds. Her career in education has seen her in leadership positions in Australia, United Kingdom and Singapore.
The John Paul College teacher has been nominated by Head of Primary School Andrew Gordon for the QCT Excellent Leadership in Teaching and Learning Award this year. “Lindsay exhibits attributes of a lifelong learner, constantly seeking opportunities for continuous development of her leadership and pedagogical skills,” says Andrew. |
“She has a proven ability as an effective teacher and leader who has the capacity to inspire and influence others.” As a member of the International Baccalaureate Education Network, Lindsay leads workshops both in Australia and overseas. Focusing on inquiry teaching and learning within the learning environment, Lindsay explores contemporary research and shares her knowledge with the school community.
To create a professional learning culture which builds on the capacity in others to increase the impact on student outcomes, Lindsay supports a culture where teachers are active learners who regularly reflect on their practice. Through providing curriculum direction to her whole-school approach to teaching and learning, Lindsay delivers high-quality, research-based teaching practices which focus on success for every student. Lindsay fosters a collaborative learning environment for teachers and guides new staff by embracing change, maintaining open communication, and building on teacher capacity to support students in achieving their individual successes. She developed the College’s program of inquiry, authentically mapping out the Australian Curriculum to support students in diving deeper with critical thinking, effective literacy and numeracy skills and learning how to develop growth mindsets. As well as being a member of the pedagogical working party that works towards a College-wide framework, Lindsay is also an active member of the South East Queensland PYP Network which offers professional learning across schools. Community involvement is something Lindsay is passionate about, and she has demonstrated her enthusiasm for this through her facilitation of parent workshops, curriculum evenings and parent learning walks. Lindsay is an advocate for service learning and seeks opportunities to empower students to become active citizens. This year, she collaborated closely with the Year Six student leaders to organise an event to support the Brainchild Foundation which raised funds for families affected by childhood cancer. In her creation of units of inquiry, Lindsay enables her students to have a voice, choice and ownership of their learning. As a result, Lindsay’s students are helping to make the world a better place. Through innovation and creativity, students under Lindsay’s guidance are encouraged to become active citizens by acting within their school and the local area. Congratulations Lindsay on your nomination. |
