Lauren Bryant
Calamvale Community College
A seismic shift in the way children are being taught is underway at Calamvale Community College, where Lauren Bryant is a key player in the introduction of the new International Baccalaureate Primary Years Program (PYP).
The move to PYP has required extensive professional development, weekly meetings with staff about the new pedagogy – which requires an inquiry approach – and many planning sessions.
Lauren’s commitment to staff and the success of the transition is behind her being nominated for this year’s Queensland College of Teachers Excellent Leadership in Teaching Learning Award.
Lauren continually improves her own leadership and teaching skills through actively seeking professional development opportunities at both school and regional levels.
The P-2 English Head of Department models innovative pedagogical approaches including collaborative learning spaces, the inquiry process and how to teach writing more effectively through the program First Steps in Writing.
Calamvale Community College Junior School Principal Jackie Welch says Lauren is an exceptional leader.
“She exhibits the qualities of a lifelong learner, and looks for opportunities for the continuous development of her own leadership and pedagogical skills and models this attribute to both staff and students,” Jackie says.
Congratulations Lauren on your nomination.
