Laura Bain’s transition from a classroom teacher to a leadership role has seen an immediate effect in the use of computer technology at The Springfield Anglican College.
Laura has a passion for technology and innovation, which is evident in her role as eLearning Coordinator. She has been instrumental in improving the integration of technology in the classroom and in the delivery of the Technologies Currciulum on the Primary Campus. She has also been the driving force behind the expansion of the Primary School 1:1 program and the development a primary specific Maker Space, enabling the delivery of integrated STEAM units. |
Her efforts have had a dramatic impact on teaching and learning. She has fostered an environment where innovation and collaboration in a digital setting are embedded in the school’s culture.
Her passion is not limited to her home campus, but extends to other independent schools across Queensland. She has worked with Independent Schools Queensland to develop progression points for the Digital Technologies Curriculum. In addition, her work has been noticed by the Australian Curriculum, Assessment and Reporting Authority (ACARA) – the national body responsible for the administration of the National Curriculum. Laura has been recognised for her contributions to online communities and has been approached by Microsoft and the International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE) to write for their websites. She has shared her skills in webinars and presented at conferences. Laura also is highly active in external organisations and networks and is committed to furthering her own learning. Laura leads a “Teacher Tech Club” and a “Code Club” for students, spreading her passion for technology. Her mentorship has led to fellow staff members receiving accreditation for their fluency in digital literacies. Head of Primary Tania Brewer says Laura is an exceptional teacher and leader. “Her commitment to work with the staff in developing their expertise and skills has benefitted both the staff and the education field,” Ms Brewer says.
