An ability to integrate digital pedagogies in early years classrooms plus an innate ability to transform and adapt her own teaching methods helps mark Kerryn Walsh as an exceptional educator.

Coomera Rivers State School colleague Kellie Jones says Mrs Walsh – who has taught in Queensland for 19 years – has “an amazing power to bring life into a classroom, where uneven playing fields are made even”.

“The wisdom, patience and creativity she brings to her craft is inspiring to all of the lives she touches, conveying a true passion for teaching to everyone and, most importantly, to her students,” Ms Jones says.

A Prep teaching specialist, Mrs Walsh has embedded an ‘I do, we do, you do’ approach to her classes.

She recently presented at an ‘iPad in the Early Years’ conference for Apple, as one of three speakers from Queensland.

“Kerryn uses technology to invite parents into her classroom to share students’ daily activities and to provide personalised feedback to students on work they have uploaded,” Ms Jones explains.

“She uses the digital platform Seesaw to share recent educational articles with families through weekly newsletter and blog updates, to ensure they are enabled with tools to support their children.”

“Kerryn is a mentor to new Coomera Rivers staff, a teacher of preservice teachers from different universities and involved with the TED Talk and Salvation Army communities.

“Not only are Kerryn’s practices highly respected by her peers, but they are also held in high regard by the extended Coomera Rivers community.”
