As a former scientist, Kate Herd is using her extensive knowledge and passion for the subject to provide challenging and engaging lessons for St Rita’s College students.
Kate regularly encourages students to enter Science competitions as extra-curricular activities, including the University of Queensland Sunflower Competition, to develop in-depth knowledge and practical skills in specific subject areas. The Mathematics, Science and Biology teacher’s mentoring throughout the competition process, and her attendance at the presentation of awards in her own time, is highly valued by students and parents. |
St Rita’s Principal Dale Morrow says Kate has made the transition from academia to classroom teaching with ease.
“She is well respected by her colleagues, making insightful contributions for someone early in her career,” Dale says. “Kate has a gentle manner which makes her a calming influence on our students.”
Colleagues highly value Kate’s “warm, gentle nature” and her enthusiasm and depth of knowledge in Science, which she readily shares with them. Congratulations Kate on your QCT Excellence in Beginning to Teach Award nomination. |
