Karen Miller
Fig Tree Pocket State School
Karen Miller’s dedication to her students is grabbing the attention of Fig Tree Pocket State School’s parents, who are in awe of the commitment and compassion she extends towards each and every child.
Class parent Weng Kin Chen is thoroughly impressed by how much she has helped his daughter settle into not only a new school environment but also a new country after the family relocated from Shanghai. “My daughter was barely able to read an entire English book by herself when she first got here. Within four months, my daughter is now able to read close to the average required reading level in her class.” Garth Edwards, a parent of two of Karen’s students, saw how much of a difference Karen was making in their school community and decided to nominate her for the 2017 QCT Excellence in Teaching Award. |
“Karen Miller is, quite simply, an exceptional teacher. She cares for her students in every sense and is always totally focused on their success and feeling of self-worth,” Garth says. “Karen knows and cares about all of her students as individuals and is constantly working to understand their ‘worlds’ so that she can best tailor their learning. Her focus is always on giving her students success and happiness,” he says.
Karen’s ability to differentiate her teaching approach to suit the diverse needs of her students is the key to her success. She quickly and accurately identifies each child’s strengths and weaknesses and plans a unique approach designed to support and extend each particular student. Each child in her class feels important, respected, and successful as a result. Karen has an impressive ability to balance her kind and personal rapport with her students with the high expectations she has of them, resulting in an outstanding level of engagement in a classroom where every child feels passionate and motivated about their learning journey. Congratulations Karen on your nomination. Written by Claudia Farhart. |
