Judith Harland
Calamvale Community College
In her 38 year career, Judith Harland has made a significant impact on early years education , and on the next generation of teachers.
As a result, she has been nominated for this year’s Outstanding Contribution to Teaching award. Judith makes the effort to personally know her students at Calamvale Community College (CCC). She engages with her students to create a positive learning environment and inspires them to learn. A testament to her dedication to knowing the child is the fact that former students of hers visit her classroom regularly. She has instilled a culture of curiosity in her students. |
Meticulous attention to detail is apparent in Judith’s lesson plans.
She was instrumental in introducing a new spelling program at CCC, based on her vast knowledge of literacy development gained throughout her experience. Combining this new program with her previous experience resulted in an effective improvement in the phonics development of her students. She is always eager to discover new ways to improve her own pedagogy, which positively impacts the overall success of her students. Differentiation is also key to successful learning, and Judith effectively caters for her variety of learners. Judith also shares her knowledge with her teaching colleagues, especially beginning teachers who she invites into her classroom for mentoring. Her three decades of experience allows her to give one-on-one feedback to teachers and guide them in improving their teaching practice. She is a role model, not only to beginning teachers, but to all her colleagues who work with her. Junior School Principal Jacqueline Welsh says Judith’s dedication to public education is admirable. “Her experience provides her with a range of skills to use within her classroom and to share with her less experienced colleagues,” Ms Welsh says. Congratulations Judith on your nomination. Written by Mark Zita. |
