Jordan Tomelty Tagai State College, Saibai Island Campus
Students in Prep and Year 1 are being introduced to coding and robotics at Tagai State College’s Saibai Island campus thanks to their teacher Jordan Tomelty, who has been nominated for a prestigious state award.
Jordan’s outstanding contribution to Tagai State College and the success of her discovery-based learning experiences have led to her nomination for the Queensland College of Teachers Excellence in Beginning to Teach Award.
Head of Saibai Island Campus Paula Tweedie refers to Jordan as a “life-long learner” and says, “Jordan is committed to enhancing the learning of the students in her care and is well respected by the Saibai community”.
Jordan uses data from past assessments to set challenging goals for each student, and then uses a range of technologies to provide multi-sensory learning opportunities that help students achieve their set goals.
Jordan is currently undertaking an online Digital Technologies PD course with a university to enhance her teaching practice and participates in college and community events, often playing an organising role.
