Biloela State High School has experienced significant trauma within the past 12 months with the tragic death of two of its senior students. During this time, Principal John Adie’s tremendous support for his students and staff has provided assurance for many of those shattered lives in the school community.
His support stems from his sensitive and kind-hearted nature, which staff, students and community members agree is a guiding light for the school.
John’s ability to foster a nurturing environment, his tireless passion for education and his outstanding leadership skills are just some of the reasons he has been nominated for a Queensland College of Teachers Excellent Leadership in Teaching and Learning Award.
Steven Vincent, Assistant Regional Director of the Department of Education and Training in Central Queensland, says John works sensitively with staff, students and community members.
“His skills have been utilised to deal with the ‘now’ and the ‘future’ in regards to ongoing support for students and staff,” Steven says.
He says John makes courageous decisions to support all members and commits to agreed actions to provide the best for student outcomes.
“Student success is celebrated regularly to help build the positive environment you feel when you enter the school,” Steven says.
