Janine Zwar
Nambour State College
Aspiring writers and producers at Nambour State College are getting on-set industry experience from local Sunshine Coast film and television projects.
Their teacher Janine Zwar facilitates real world experiences for her students who wish to enter the film, television and new media industry (FTVNM).
Janine, who is a member of the Queensland Curriculum and Assessment Authority Sunshine Coast Review Panel for FTVNM, and an Executive Member of the Australian Teachers of Media (ATOM) Queensland, has been nominated for a Queensland College of Teachers Excellence in Teaching Award.
Janine regularly puts her students in contact with industry experts for mentoring and work experience opportunities.
Her classroom door is always open to students who wish to stay after school to work on projects, or seeking extra help with assessment and study.
Several of Janine’s students have won national film competitions and many have gone on to pursue careers in the film and television industry.
One of Janine’s students commented that his future career plans were shaped by Janine’s efforts to help him recognise a talent he never knew he had.
“Any success I achieve in this field I owe to her, for inspiring me to realise my dream,” he says.
Thanks to Janine, students from the region will be involved in the Caloundra Film Festival and the Horizons Festival this year.
Congratulations Janine on your nomination.
