Helen Forbes has achieved much in leadership roles throughout her 40 year career.
She has been an Education Advisor for the Year 2 Net program, Coordinator of Learning and Development Centre-Literacy, manager of English and mathematics at a regional level, written and lead curriculum programs in Literacy, deputy principal, an assistant lecturer at a university and a literacy consultant to schools in New York, USA. Her broad experience has given her insight into leading teachers at Sandy Strait State School and providing whole school programs and practises that target the needs of all students. |
At Sandy Strait State School she has planned and lead professional development over many years to help her colleagues improve the literacy outcomes of students through building understanding of diverse student needs and learning.
Helen has assisted the wider school community in adopting best practices in teaching and learning, which has led to an improvement of school data. She has lead best practise through being a ‘hands on’leader in classrooms and creating a collaborative learning culture in the school. Helen is open to mentoring fellow staff – from beginning to more experienced teachers – to ensure they are teaching to the best of their ability and in a way that benefits all students. Through the combination of student data, her vast experience and the use of evidence based research, Helen has been able to implement programs, processes and practices that help improve the literacy achievements of the students at Sandy Strait State School and the North Coast – Maryborough region.
