Noble by both name and heart, Greg Noble's main agenda as principal of Walloon State School is bringing the community together and raising the profile of his beloved school.
And he doesn't just talk the talk, Greg is well known around town, thanks to his frequent visits to local venues, participation in community events and active involvement in all things taking place in Walloon. Consistently going above and beyond what is expected of a school principal, Greg doesn't just engage with the wider community, he immerses himself in it. Greg actively seeks partnerships with various community groups to help him understand the complexity of the Walloon community – a community he's grown to love. |
“With an open-door policy based on trust, Greg encourages open, honest communication, and above all, sets high expectations for himself as a community leader,” says Greg’s supervisor, Maria Berriman. Always looking for ways to engage the community and parents in school life, Greg attends numerous events to promote the school as a positive environment.
But Greg is more than just a face in the crowd. An extremely passionate and committed principal who strives to lead from the front in all he does, Greg is just as likely to be found modelling writing in classrooms to lead the writing improvement agenda, or taking the role of a local poet at a writers’ festival. Greg recognises that both staff and parents are instrumental in the success of the school and learning outcomes for its students. He enthusiastically supports school programs driven by staff, such as the much-loved Chappy's Walk Around Australia challenge, and actively promotes differentiation within classrooms, encouraging staff to involve parents and carers in student learning. Greg's personal involvement extends to the weekly newsletter, where he constructs articles to pique parents' interest and provide pieces of valuable wisdom. This engages parents in students’ activities at school. Greg uses poetry to enrich the lives of others, through three online pages. On one, he writes daily verses about hope and personal growth. On another, he writes free commissions for people, be it for a birthdays, sporting teams and even marriage proposals! On the third he shares his love of walking and cycling the Brisbane Valley rail Trail and the communities along it, encouraging others to be active and to use the Trail. These posts are regularly seen by more than 8,000 people and some have been read on radio. Last year Greg lost 65kg and shared his journey with others. This led to other people embarking on their own health and wellbeing journeys. Taking strategies learnt throughout his studies and career, Greg applies these within the school environment, involving parents in the process. This has created an extremely positive climate at Walloon State School. Congratulations Greg on your Outstanding Contribution to School Community Award nomination. |
