The integration of digital literacy into lessons by practising artist, Glenda Carol Hobdell, has transformed how The Arts are taught at Mackay State High School.

Through her 29-year experience working with curriculum, and her drive to innovate, Glenda has created a culture of continual improvement within the Arts faculty.

Her adoption of digital literacies has been recognised twice by the Smart Classroom Awards and she has presented at conferences across Australia and at the World Alliance of Arts Educators Summit and InSEA World Congresses.

She sets high benchmarks and models continual self-development.

Graduate teachers benefit from Glenda’s co-ordination of the school’s Mentoring Beginning Teachers program and she is a role model to both staff and students, through her PhD research and as a practising artist.

Through Glenda’s efforts, staff are quick to adopt practices to enhance their own professional practice.

Deputy Principal, Tania Cheers, says Glenda is a passionate arts educator.

“Through her own innovation and desire to improve staff knowledge and skills, she has implemented rigorous extension disciplines and improvement processes to promote an improvement culture,” Tanya says.
