Fiona Millar
Middle Ridge State School
In a teaching career spanning 25 years, Fiona Millar has developed a flair for creating strong collegial relationships and school-wide networks that support sound educational practices in the classroom.
During her time as Middle Ridge State School’s Master Teacher, Fiona has become known for her ability to articulate the school’s direction clearly and put in place sound practices that will help the school realise that direction. “Fiona’s intuitive mind is able to very quickly unravel complex situations and formulate the appropriate solutions and reforms to make workable improvements,” colleague Maree Walsh said. |
“She is approachable, honest, and blessed with empathy and the skills to empower those around her through positive reinforcement and a genuine interest in building capacity in the classroom,” she said. “Empowering” is the perfect word to describe Fiona: in her role as Master Teacher, she has consistently equipped her colleagues with the tools they need to help their students in the classroom.
Under her leadership, the school has introduced innovative, quality educational practices that address complex problems with creative solutions. Fiona’s key focus has been to develop a positive and engaging learning environment by ensuring all teachers have the support they need to feel competent and confident in the classroom. The ways in which Fiona provides this support are plenty: she fosters a culture of growth and sustainability, keeps abreast of the latest evidence-based research and updates teachers on the findings, and helps her teaching team identify and capitalise on new opportunities for development and success.
