Christine Pascoe
South Johnstone State School
Christine Pascoe’s tireless efforts to transform her school into a warm and welcoming environment, her support for staff and her dedication to students, their families and the community is inspiring to all those around her.
Passionate about supporting student success, she used funding for her extra administration day to help pay for a learning support teacher and extra teacher aides instead. Academic results and the self-esteem of students have increased under her leadership. So has the self-esteem of staff. Every single member of the South Johnstone State School staff has signed off on Christine’s nomination for this year’s Queensland College of Teachers Excellent Leadership in Teaching and Learning Award. Christine’s kind-hearted, sensitive and supportive nature has been highly appreciated, particulary by colleagues who have experienced personal difficulties. |
Her drive to engage the community has seen members of the community formally invited to school functions and events throughout the year.
Children with learning difficulties are given the extra support they need through programs Christine has implemented. School pride has also increased thanks to a number of initiatives she has introduced, including a gardening program, new play equipment, an ANZAC memorial garden and two new areas to celebrate the school’s centenary. Recently, Christine and her team have created an area for students to sit whilst waiting for parent pick-ups and buses, surrounded by a garden tribute for Daniel Morcombe (pictures below). Students have also been provided with a chicken farm to help develop responsibility.
School staff say Christine has helped to positively change the school’s public perception of the school. Department of Education and Training Far North Queensland Assistant Regional Director Allan Thomas says Christine is held in high regard by her school community. “Over the last several years, Mrs Pascoe has worked consistently to achieve better outcomes for her students and to build good relationships with all stakeholders at the school – students, staff and parents,” Mr Thomas says. Congratulations Christine on your nomination. |
