Christine Fatialofa is year-level coordinator for Year 3 at Calamvale Community College and leads her team through a collaborative inquiry process with a focus on comprehension and effective assessment strategies.
She has modelled the inquiry process by researching current best practice in their focus areas and sharing it with the team, which has in turn encouraged other team members to research best practices in comprehension and assessment strategies. Keen to improve her skills, Christine has attended professional development opportunities in reading, maths and inquiry pedagogy, which she has embraced. She uses a range of formative and diagnostic assessment tools to gather information on students’ current learning needs and creates individual plans for each student. |
Christine’s teaching reflects the individual needs of her students, as does her classroom environment by providing opportunities for flexible learning groups. She consistently uses explicit learning goals and student success criteria in lessons, analyses students’ data and uses this knowledge to create targeted data action plans that specify strategies and approaches to meet individual needs.
She has an ability to communicate to students the purpose of their learning and by implementing well-sequenced learning experiences and modelling, she enables students to be clear about their role and goals. Christine plans learning experiences that are explicit, targeted, differentiated and engaging. She collects a range of formative and diagnostic data to inform student learning needs and incorporates tools to support students, including a focus on learning from others in teams. Strong communication and shared goals allow Christine to build positive relationships with her students and parents. She communicates regularly with parents about their children’s learning and behaviour and has developed a close professional relationship with her teaching team. As year-level coordinator she is required to support and lead others and aims to strengthen teacher curriculum knowledge. Congratulations Christine on your Excellence in Teaching Award nomination. |
