Chicri Maksoud
Brisbane Boys College
In his 33 years of teaching at Brisbane Boys College, Chicri Maksoud has shown an exceptional commitment to the development of his students, his school, and the community of mathematics teachers across Queensland and Australia.
In his school, Chicri is known for selflessly giving up his own time to tutor students, holding a weekly lunchtime mathematics club and running the middle school mathematics competitions. A passionate coach in the school’s rugby, cricket, athletics, and cross country programs, Chicri has a much-loved habit of incorporating mathematics into his sports conversations and sports into his mathematics conversations. |
“Chicri is a compassionate and dedicated teacher who delights in sharing in his students’ successes,” colleague Catherine Butler said.
“Parents speak glowingly of the changes Chicri has made to their sons’ understanding of mathematics. Students throughout the College praise the impact he has had on their learning,” she said. Chicri now coordinates the middle school mathematics curriculum for Brisbane Boys College and is working diligently to improve and broaden the school’s mathematics program.
It’s clear that Chicri goes above and beyond to give his students every opportunity he can to further their engagement with mathematics – he also coordinates an accelerated year level program at the school, which allows gifted Year 12 students to participate in university level courses. Chicri is an active and respected member of Australia’s community of mathematics teachers. He is currently serving as the Queensland delegate to the Council of the Australian Association of Mathematics Teachers, which works to support and enhance the work of mathematics teachers across the country. Congratulations Chicri on your nomination. By Claudia Farhart. |
