Catherine Sander
Calamvale Community College
Catherine Sander is known and loved among her students and colleagues for her ability to deliver rich and engaging learning experiences that reflect the individual needs of her students.
The Calamvale Community College teacher has been collecting and analysing student data to create targeted teaching strategies and action plans to ensure each and every student in her class feels supported and secure in their learning journey. “After 22 years of teaching, Cath continues to display a passion for improving the education of young people,” colleague Nicole Lewicki said. |
“On any given day, walking into Cath’s classroom, you will see students who are actively engaged in the learning process and who are engaging with curriculum that has been differentiated to suit their individual needs,” she said.
Understanding the value of collaborative learning, Catherine effectively designs lessons that encourage teamwork in her classes so that students can learn from her as well as from each other. Catherine’s prolonged success as an educator can be attributed to her willingness to constantly and critically reflect on her own teaching practices. She regularly accesses contemporary research and re-evaluates her teaching style in an effort to maintain a high standard of practice. This ongoing process of self-evaluation has set a superb example for her students, who also engage in regular reflection on their own individual learning goals and progress. Catherine is clearly a valued member of the Calamvale school community; students value her ability to help them achieve their goals, colleagues value her ability to help them develop meaningful learning programs, and parents value the positive partnerships she builds with them so that they can remain actively involved in their child’s development. Congratulations Catherine on your nomination. By Claudia Farhart. |
