Carol Herbert
All Saints Anglican School
Carol Herbert is setting the ultimate example for her students through the dedication she demonstrates towards her own personal learning journey despite being 30 years into her career as an educator.
The All Saints Anglican School teacher keeps a detailed mind-map tracking her completion of workshops, seminars, online courses, and academic readings, all of which have allowed her to adjust her approach to classroom teaching as necessary throughout her long and successful career. Despite their constant evolution, Carol’s various approaches to teaching have always been based on one simple belief: that each and every student is capable of success. |
Her ultimate goal is to teach students that they have the ability to take control of their brain and, in turn, the ability to take control of their learning.
This goal has seen her identify the unique learning needs of her individual students and differentiate her teaching approaches to make classes relevant and engaging for each child. Always encouraging, Carol is known for valuing even the smallest achievements and celebrating each and every one of her students’ successes. “As colleagues, we believe her devotion to teaching, commitment to learning, and her honest, refreshing sense of humour make her an exceptional classroom teacher,” colleague Cindy McCarthy said. “Her leadership skills are further displayed through her guidance and support as a mentor teacher. As one of her former pre-service students, I can recall how she shared her knowledge, passion, and love of teaching to guide me through my own professional development,” she said.
Under Carol’s leadership, the school’s Year Five teaching team had the opportunity to attend a MindBrain conference in Melbourne. When they returned, Carol went out of her way to present what she had learnt in a workshop with her junior school colleagues who did not get to attend the conference. Carol continues to support her colleagues further into their careers, maintaining an open door policy so that she can help her peers to plan, implement, and review various learning and teaching programs at any available opportunity. Congratulations Carol on your nomination. By Claudia Farhart. |
