Brooke Bugeja
Valkyrie State School
Parents in Brooke Bugeja’s class receive regular letters about how their children are progressing against individual learning goals she has set.
Her dedication to student improvement, to working with parents, and to ensuring her daily lessons are engaging, is among the reasons she has been nominated for a Queensland College of Teachers Excellence in Beginning to Teach Award.
Valkyrie State School Principal Kirsten Clements says Brooke should be credited for her commitment to teaching and learning.
“Brooke is an outstanding young teacher, with a bright leadership future ahead of her,” Kirsten says.
Brooke arrived in the rural school, about one hour’s drive outside of Mackay, as a first-year teacher and has been teaching multi-level classes since.
When it was identified that most students could read fluently and with expression, but lacked retell and comprehension skills, Brooke responded quickly by enrolling in professional development that focused on strategies to fix this.
Her positive and respectful relationships with community members inspire all those around her.
Congratulations Brooke on your nomination.
