Ava Greenwood
Queensland Academy for Science, Mathematics and Technology
In Ava Greenwood’s classes students receive differentiated homework sheets, oral and written surveys about their learning and the benefit of Ava’s academic background in mathematical sciences.
Ava’s previous research experience has proved invaluable at the Queensland Academy for Science, Mathematics and Technology, where she teaches Mathematics and Chemistry to many gifted and talented students studying for their International Baccalaureate (IB).
She has been nominated for a Queensland College of Teachers Excellence in Beginning to Teach Award.
The first year teacher is able to use her experience in academic research to expose students to the rigours and conventions of real-world research and bolster their academic writing, which plays a crucial role in the IB program.
Her role as an Instep Coach Programme Mentor also helps her to foster a positive emotional climate in the classroom, in which she promotes metacognition and reflection as a strategy for students to take ownership of learning and goal-setting.
Ava also uses data walls to track student progress.
Congratulations Ava on your nomination.
