Ipswich Grammar School

Adam French has been developing interactive STEM programs to teach his science students about the fields of robotics and coding.
 
This is just one example of the creative, real-world methods the Ipswich Grammar School teacher is drawing upon to engage his science and mathematics students.
 
Recently, Adam transformed his engineering classroom into a motion sensor laboratory to teach his students about linear motion and acceleration. 

​This inventiveness and commitment to going above and beyond to make classes engaging for all students is what led Adam’s colleagues to nominate him for the 2017 QCT Excellence in Teaching Award.

“He is highly respected by students, staff, and colleagues for his intellect, resourcefulness, integrity, and the caring attitude he displays to all in the community,” Dean of Teaching Susan Shaw said. 

In an effort to encourage students to become responsible for their own learning, Adam established his own system of performance scales, allowing his students to track their individual progress throughout the year. 

Adam’s contributions to his school community extend far beyond the science classroom; he is also involved in the school’s music program and coaches the debating team.
