Outstanding Queensland teachers recognised in state awards
INSPIRING Queensland teachers who are making a remarkable difference in the lives of their students and communities are among 21 finalists in prestigious teaching awards.
A record number of teachers were nominated in this year’s Queensland College of Teachers (QCT) Excellence in Teaching Awards, including more than 100 teachers in one category.
The finalists have led state education firsts, transformed perceptions at their schools and are making an invaluable contribution to the lives of students.
QCT Chair Dr Joe McCorley congratulated the finalists on their exceptional work.
“From a remote island in the Torres Strait, to mining towns in Central Queensland, to the Gold Coast, these awards highlight once again the outstanding teaching that happens every day across this state, across all schooling sectors,” Dr McCorley said.
“The awards help us recognise and celebrate the invaluable contribution these teachers and school leaders are making, and have made, to our society,” he said.
“I’d like to thank all of the finalists, and all of the 220 teachers who were nominated, for their inspiring work and for their commitment to the teaching profession and students.”
The award winners will be announced on 27 October at an evening ceremony, the night before Australia celebrates World Teachers’ Day.
There are four award categories: Excellence in Beginning to Teach, Excellence in Teaching, Excellent Leadership in Teaching and Learning and Outstanding Contribution to Teaching, reflecting the different career stages of teachers and school leaders.
The Story Bridge will also light up to celebrate teachers on the night of October 27.
