“Tina has changed the face of education at Queen of Apostles School. She has worked tirelessly to ensure students are being taught using the best and most effective practices. Tina has fought for quality education. She is an outstanding leader.” – Anne-Marie Maw, Assistant Principal at Queen of Apostles School.
With over 30 years of teaching experience in Queensland, Tina Watson continues to study and apply the latest research to current practice. As Primary Learning Leader at her school, she sees each of the teachers as her students, and has increased their engagement with short-term planning cycles and use of literature, leading to spectacular results. Prep PM Benchmark (Reading Assessment Resource designed to assess students’ instructional and independent reading levels) results have moved from 54.9 per cent reading in the 5-8 targeted area for Kindergarten students in 2017 to 82 per cent reading in the same area in 2018. Whenever studying new research, Tina frames everything through the prism of, “Will this improve student learning outcomes at our school?”. This work has paid dividends, with the school recently named a school of substantial growth in NAPLAN. The impressive statistics can be traced to Tina’s love for her role as Primary Learning Leader. Constantly motivated to keep improving, she has just completed a Graduate Certificate in Contemporary Literacy. This follows an established pattern of regularly going to professional learning network events and webinars, often whilst on holidays. She also leads professional learning sessions at P&F meetings and after school drop-in sessions so that all staff, parents and community can network and build their knowledge. Congratulations Tina on your nomination. |
