As the Digital Pedagogies Coach at Redbank Plains State High School, Theo Skordilis has been instrumental in moving the school’s textbooks and learning to the online space.
“Theo has developed quality teaching and learning resources activities to engage the diverse students within the school from those with learning needs, from English as an Additional Language Dialect (EAL/D) backgrounds, and students from low socio-economic backgrounds,” Deputy Principal Belinda Walker says. |
By providing access to a range of tailored teaching and learning platforms Theo is focussed on developing independent learners.
Using data collected from pre-assessments and online quizzes, he enhances student engagement and monitors their progress to differentiate his teaching to improve individual student learning. The Science and Physics teacher has co-authored a freely available online textbook to support learning in line with the new Physics curriculum, not only available to his students but to all students in the state. Theo has developed a New Art & Science of Teaching (NASoT) online learning space through the Learning Place Learning Management System (LMS) eLearn site, to support after school sessions and activities for staff to assist integration of the Pedagogical Framework within the school. Building upon this knowledge and experience he conducted a number of full-day professional development workshops including ‘Creating and Managing Digital Portfolios for the Queensland Certificate of Individual Assessment (QCIA) in the Learning Place’ and ‘Creating eLearn Courses Using Digital Pedagogies’ that were attended by 65 teachers from across the state. Requests for further workshops by teachers across schools demonstrates the impact of his work. “Theo has made himself available to all staff on an ongoing basis to progress the digital pedagogies across the school. His collegial and engaging approach has encouraged more staff involvement.” Belinda says. Congratulations Theo on your nomination. |
