Stacey Lang

John Paul College
When you know better, you can do better. That’s what middle school Humanities and Literacy teacher Stacey Jo Lang believes, and she’s leaving a big, positive impression on her fellow educators.

Showing dedication to the pursuit of building up her colleagues to be the best professional versions of themselves is what drives Stacey’s passion for education and leadership.

Stacey’s commitment to professional learning and development at John Paul College has led to her being nominated for the prestigious Queensland College of Teachers Excellent Leadership in Learning and Teaching Award.
As well as implementing professional learning networks across Years 7 to 12, Stacey has facilitated staff groups across the facultiess focused on “Using Data to Differentiate Practice”. Stacey clearly recognises the importance of self-development and strives to engage her fellow educators to ignite their professional passion.

Encouraging her staff to develop their professional skills through establishing professional learning sessions around reading and writing, Stacey created a Literacy and Learning Hub. The Hub was designed by Stacey as a space for staff to share their own learning and skills, together building on their knowledge around key literacy strategies.

Along with leading the College review of reading across the phases of learning, Stacey has also chaired the Reading Working Party with the aim of researching and creating a College Wide Framework for effective improvement of reading. Not to be pigeon-holed as merely a middle school teacher, Stacey has been a key driver of the implementation of research in writing across all grades at John Paul College – encouraging her fellow educators to be committed to their professional development.

In her pursuit to improve student learning outcomes and provide necessary intervention, Stacey developed and implemented the Academic Skills Program designed to assist students who are at or below national standards in literacy. She also oversees and implements the Year 6 into Year 7 transition program, ensuring students have a smooth change into middle school.
