Meila Wang utilises her own experiences of learning the English language and her native language of Mandarin to build strong relationships with her Calamvale Community College students and their parents who do not speak English at home.
She provides further support for all EALD students by working with teachers to ensure these students are differentiated for and receive special consideration when appropriate. Meila is adept at encouraging students’ own curiosity by drawing on their experiences beyond the classroom to build cultural understandings. |
She is considered with the range of texts and learning experiences she uses, ensuring students have the required cultural capital and language knowledge to succeed.
She draws on research to inform her teaching practice and learning routines and uses visible learning techniques. Her assessment practices are based on the work of Dylan Wiliam, utilising formative assessment as a means to gather data and identify student needs. Congratulations Meila on your Queensland College of Teachers Excellence in Beginning to Teach Award nomination. |
