Gerald Raciti
Herberton State School
A 200 per cent increase in Year 7 enrolments at Herberton State School has been attributed to Gerald Raciti’s outstanding leadership at the school.
Students who are at risk of being disengaged, or failing school, have been offered mindfulness programs and vocational education courses to keep them engaged. Gerald has also communicated with relevant community groups to provide programs that enhance student learning. Herberton State School Faculty member Julie Part says Gerald is dedicated to his staff, providing mentoring and collaborating with colleagues after school, on weekends and even in the holidays. “Gerald is passionate about helping people – all people – and is committed to personal improvement,” Julie says. “He motivates staff, students and parents to do more and be more than they believed possible.” “Gerald has established a work environment in which continual improvement is the norm and innovation, small and large, can flourish.” He has implemented new programs at his school based on contemporary research, including research on early adolescent brain development and cognitive functioning.
Principal Chris Honan says Gerald is an outstanding educational leader. “As a head of department, Gerald’s ability to introduce whole-school programs, train staff in these programs, inform parents and students about them, coach staff and supervisors alike on improvement practices and review student, staff and school performance, all the while having a teaching load, is impressive – resulting in a 200 per cent increase in student enrolments in Year 7 in 2017,” Mr Honan says. Congratulations Gerald on your nomination. Written by Mark Zita. |
