Carmen Krisanski
Windsor Neighbourhood Childcare Centre
Once every term, three and four year olds from Windsor Neighbourhood Childcare Centre join a local Catholic Prep class to see what school is like.
The invaluable school transition strategy is just one of many initiatives introduced by an inspirational Kindergarten teacher, who has been nominated for an Excellence in Beginning to Teach Award.
Carmen Krisanski is so passionate about early childhood education she has been chosen to represent the State Government’s “Kindy Counts” campaign.
“At kindy we do science experiments, beading, free drawing, rollercoaster building, building blocks, play dough—I take the lead from the children in terms of what they’re interested in,” Carmen says in the campaign.
She maintains and renews her teaching expertise through extensive research and reading, which has led to the purchase of textbooks and new technology resources for the centre’s staff library that invites educators to increase their own knowledge and skill.
Her care for students can be seen on a daily basis in the Kindergarten room and in the extra effort she goes to for the centre community.
She played an integral role in the recruitment of a physiotherapist to provide training for staff caring for a child with cerebral palsy.
Carmen is also at the forefront of several events that have encouraged stronger engagement between the Centacare Child Care Services centre and children and their families, including Mother’s Day and Father’s Day events, Wear a Tail Day, Kindergarten Social Night and working bees.
Congratulations Carmen on your nomination.
