Bill Bryant from Brighton State School is described as ‘hilarious’.  He uses humour as an effective and immediate way to get his students’ attention. 

He is loved by students and parents alike who view him as an exceptional teacher.  He encourages parental support and a sense of community by sharing videos, photos and information to the Seesaw app.

“Bill creates a supportive and safe environment based on respect, inclusiveness and friendship,” principal Courtney Lahey said.
He has been teaching for 36 years and the number of testimonials from parents of his students highlights how respected and valued he is as a teacher.

Bill provides a very positive learning environment, encouraging children to speak up if they don’t understand anything and praising them for their bravery.  He also encourages critical thinking and listening by making purposeful mistakes in literacy, grammar and numeracy, which children love to pick him up on.

Bill, in many ways, exceeds the challenging requirements and expectations for the award.  He is highly deserving of the honour bestowed by this award.  As a parent helper I have witnessed first-hand the incredible efforts that he goes to to engage and motivate students and have become acutely aware of his in-depth knowledge and skills,” parent Sarah Coetzee said.

Under Bill’s guidance all students are expected to achieve, and he doesn’t give up on underachievers.  He handles conflicts and difficult situations with patience and admirable tact.

All students are offered the chance to share life experiences, personal interests and family values through show and share sessions, classroom discussions and communications using SeeSaw.

“When I was unable to attend a Mother’s Day evening organised by Bill and the Prep B students, Bill and his colleagues surprised me by personally delivering the high tea, along with my son’s pre-prepared handmade gifts to my house so that my son and I could be included in the event,” Sarah said.

“Mr Bryant has given his countless students over the years the gift of the joy of learning. He is a legend at Brighton State School. All parents know what an outstanding teacher he is and what a huge asset he is to the school,” parent Aimee Phomsouvanh said.
