Amy Heymer looks beyond the curriculum to reach every students’ needs and learning capabilities.

The Corinda State High School teacher knows her teaching subjects inside out, which gives her the flexibility to develop innovative programs that blend both contextual knowledge and activities to keep her students active and engaged. 

Amy is the Year 8 Geography subject co-ordinator and is an ICT champion within the school’s Humanities faculty.

She also draws on community knowledge to tailor learning for students of diverse backgrounds.

Deputy Principal Tracey Hall says students and colleagues alike turn to Amy for support. 

​“She is dedicated and takes every opportunity to mentor preservice teachers and colleagues to improve teaching and learning,” Tracey says. 

In her role as Professional Learning Community Facilitator, Amy is constantly building the capacities of the school’s teaching staff. She has provided whole-school professional development on eLearning and ICTs such as OneNote, Literatu and Scribo as part of the schools Bring Your Own Device program.

Amy’s depth of understanding around the Australian Curriculum and QCAA professional and legislative responsibilities is a credit to the school.
